When it all goes wrong, how do you talk to yourself?

I’d had a day.

I broke my husbands iPad. I brought him his lunch and forgot the tool I was supposed to bring. I got lost the second time I went to the job site. The kids wouldn’t stop fighting. My kitchen is a mess. I couldn’t see my bedroom floor. The list goes on.

But the worst part is the self talk I was allowing…

If only I could be more careful.

If only I could be more organized.

If only I could have a clean house.

If only I enjoyed parenting more.

If only I could bring in more income…

I had to stop the negativity and realize how awful I was being to myself.

I read this quote last week and it’s stuck with me.

‘If your response every time you feel mentally or physically bad is to assume that the problem is that you must not be trying hard enough – you’ll never thrive…’ from Your Blue Flame by Jennifer Fulwiler.

I love this quote because it reminds me that I’m not a good fit for everything – and that’s okay!

Life happens. Sometimes we’re not equipped to deal with it. That’s where your community comes in.

Needless to say, Your Blue Flame is the book I’m currently recommending to everyone! Find it here on Amazon.

Read the book – or don’t. But here’s to stopping the negative self talk, and giving ourselves the grace we need to thrive!
